About

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Hi.  I’m Pamela.  Welcome to my blog. I do believe there is a ‘new age’ view slowly emerging in the 21st century about aging.  However, if we aren’t careful, we Baby Boomers will believe the hype about aging that society tends to impose upon us.  And when does a Baby Boomer believe anything society has said? Certainly not in the ’60’s and ’70’s.  We experimented and rebelled. We found our own way. So, why not now?

Along with my own observations, I have an amazing 95-year-old mother who is my role model. She continues to age with style, spirit and grace, all while maintaining a positive attitude that is infectious.

We’ll talk about everything related to growing up: relationships, style, exercise, positive attitude, love, loss, retirement, health…you name it.  Hence this blog is being written to say there is a different way, a ‘new age’ to aging and I want the world to know about it!

Ok — now I need to rant!
Does anybody else think that retired people are treated as though they volunteer because they have nothing else to do to fill their days???? Well — not this retired lady!!! I’m busy all the time! I want to volunteer — because I want to give back to the people and community that have been there for me!!! But I choose my volunteer activities carefully — because MY TIME IS PRECIOUS!!!! And when volunteer coordinators and others treat me as though they are doing me a FAVOR by LETTING me help them — that totally burns me up!!! This happened again this week. I volunteer at an assisted living facility, and I think I am bringing a bit of extra joy to the residents there. And I’ve grown close to several of them — I look forward to seeing to them each week. But I don’t feel like the staff values my time. And as a result, I’m getting frustrated. I need to find a way to take more control of my situation — or leave. Suggestions welcome!!!!

As I get older I have become so keenly aware that life is definitely a journey. With every age there are ups and downs, new things to experience and lights that come on in my head. In my life I’ve often been focused on the moment, the task at hand. In this moment I’m much more aware of the bigger picture. Every day still requires some concentration on the here and now, but I’m increasingly drawn to the bigger perspective…there is so much to experience in this thing called life.

Love this idea! I always say you’re only as old as you act – you have to keep that young attitude! Looking forward to reading more!

Being “old” is not what it is said it has to be. Now that is a mouth full but true. We don’t have to be ill, weak, or unhealthy. We can be as strong and active as we want to be – let’s be the rebels and show them how it is done!!!

60+ and loving it…..life is what you make of it at all ages. Every day is a new adventure if that’s what you choose to make it.

Thank you for attacking the stereotype!!!! Your life is the best example disproving the stereotypes of aging. Putting yourself out there every day — in this blog, and every aspect of life!!! When more people start SEEING this, the stereotypes will have to change!

It’s such a process, this aging thing, and I’ve learned so much as a result. So much to share, so little time. So, I’m glad you’ve created this blog so we can share together! Thanks.

Hi there! I came to your blog through Gateway Women which is for women who have chosen not to have children. I’m in my early 30s and am leaning towards a child-free life. I’m really interested to see the paths of women who are older than me and so I’m happy to have found your blog. I believe that aging well is something that you can learn to do – and I want to learn how! Thank you for creating this positive space!

    August 28, 2015 at 5:43 pm

Delphine, I am so excited you found my blog! I wasn’t familiar with Gateway Women and glad to find it, through you. I too believe aging well is learned and since you are open to that learning in your early 30’s I have no doubt you will be successful at it. I have an incredible role model…my 96 year old amazing mom, which I have written about in previous posts. I would be flattered to be one of your role models. That is the key to the process. Look to women whom you admire that are older than you and watch them!! I am writing my next blog in two parts. The second part I have asked women older than 50 to tell me what they would tell their 35-ish self today. Please subscribe, if you haven’t already and stayed tuned. Best regards.
